[ ATTENTION & FOCUS ]

why pair caffeine with l-theanine?

the pairing, the attention research, and why we put both ingredients in every workflow gummy.

[ THE SHORT ANSWER ]

caffeine + l-theanine is a pairing studied for attention, including task-switching accuracy. workflow puts that pairing in a fruit gummy: 20 mg caffeine from guarana + 40 mg l-theanine per piece. a smaller caffeine portion, two fruit flavors, and no drink to prepare.

01

caffeine that fits the moment

workflow pairs 20 mg caffeine from guarana with 40 mg l-theanine in each gummy. smaller increments let you choose your caffeine amount for the moment, with the pairing built into every piece.

choose pineapple yuzu or blood orange mango. both flavors are vegan, made with pectin, and come in a resealable pouch of 40 gummies. each gummy contains 2 g sugar.

02

what does better focus actually mean?

“focus” can mean staying with a repetitive task, moving between rules, spotting the right signal or holding information in mind. researchers separate these abilities so they can measure a change rather than rely only on how alert someone feels.

that makes the research more useful. ask which task improved, how it was scored and what the comparison group received. a result for one ability does not automatically transfer to every other ability.

what does better focus actually mean?
the questionwhat researchers measure
can i switch between tasks accurately?correct responses when the task or rule changes
can i stay attentive for longer?errors or missed signals as time on a task increases
am i responding faster?reaction time on a defined task
can i hold information in mind?performance on a working-memory test
do i feel more awake?self-reported alertness

what the research says about the combination

a 2025 systematic review covered 50 randomized trials of tea, l-theanine or l-theanine + caffeine; 15 contributed to at least one pooled analysis. it found small-to-moderate benefits on some attention outcomes compared with placebo, including attention-switching accuracy in the second hour. some other estimates remained uncertain.

the review also disclosed tea-industry funding and author affiliations. read that alongside the methods, the individual trials and the authors’ call for more research outside the laboratory.

04

task switching and sustained attention ask different questions

switching studies test how accurately a person handles changing instructions. sustained-attention studies ask whether performance holds up while a task continues. the distinction matters when choosing which evidence is relevant to your own question.

we have separated these into two deeper guides, each with the actual study amounts and comparison conditions.

05

what about working memory and mental fatigue?

a 2008 crossover study tested 150 mg caffeine and 250 mg l-theanine separately and together. the combination improved several outcomes versus placebo, including numeric working-memory response time, sentence-verification accuracy and reported mental fatigue.

working memory, response speed and accuracy describe different parts of attention. the study’s named outcome helps explain where the pairing showed a benefit.

06

is a 2:1 ratio the important part?

workflow uses twice as much l-theanine as caffeine: 40 mg with 20 mg in each gummy. the ratio describes the pairing; the milligrams tell you the amount.

workflow contains 40 mg l-theanine and 20 mg caffeine from guarana per gummy. the studies in these guides tested other amounts and formulations. choose by the label and your routine, rather than trying to reproduce a trial by taking extra pieces.

[ GOOD QUESTIONS ]

a little more clarity

is caffeine + l-theanine better than caffeine alone?

not in every study or for every outcome. a placebo comparison cannot answer that by itself. a sustained-attention trial with separate ingredient conditions found no extra benefit from the combination at its tested doses.

does l-theanine cancel out caffeine?

no. a combination still contains caffeine and contributes to your daily total. these attention findings do not establish protection against sleep disruption or jitters.

how much caffeine and l-theanine is in each gummy?

each workflow gummy contains 20 mg caffeine from guarana and 40 mg l-theanine. both flavors use the same core formula, with 40 gummies per pouch.
